Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata has been linked with a summer move to Leicester City.

Celtic fans may have taken note of Brendan Rodgers hinting that he may consider letting Filip Benkovic head out on loan again next season, in comments that were reported by Leicestershire Live.

Benkovic has been an excellent loan signing for the Hoops, and it would be fantastic for the champions if there was an opportunity to sign him again in the summer.

Celtic face losing Dedryck Boyata when his contract expires, so the manager ahead of next season will surely make bringing in at least one new centre-back a priority. And it would be a huge boost for the Bhoys if Benkovic was the player brought in.

But much is, of course, resting on what Leicester decide to do. So given recent reports regarding the Foxes, perhaps the stage is set for Boyata to potentially do Celtic one final favour on his way out of Parkhead.

The Daily Record reported shortly after Rodgers took the Foxes job that he wanted Boyata on a free transfer when his Celtic contract expires.

Hoops fans may now be resigned to the idea of the Belgian leaving with no new deal in sight, and they may have not have been too bothered where he ends up as Celtic are not going to get themselves a fee for his departure.

But if it is Leicester that end up signing Boyata, that would surely make the chances of Benkovic leaving on loan again look a lot more likely as the Croatian is already seemingly facing a difficult task trying to force his way into the side next season.

So if Boyata heads to Leicester this summer and frees up Benkovic to leave again on loan, perhaps Celtic will have their current centre-back to thank for making the best out of a bad situation in regards to his departure.
