Could West Ham United’s David Moyes take over from Brendan Rodgers at Celtic if he joins Arsenal?
Celtic fans will be distraught if they lose Brendan Rodgers this summer but, let’s face it, it’s a distinct possibility.
Arsene Wenger announced that he is stepping down as Arsenal manager at the end of the season and Rodgers is widely touted as the man who could replace the Frenchman in North London.
If it happens then Celtic will need to find another manager capable of delivering 10 Scottish Premiership titles in a row, with Rodgers on the brink of delivering the club’s seventh successive top-flight crown.
And should they look at David Moyes?
The Scot’s future at West Ham United is very much up in the air and it wouldn’t be a major surprise if the Irons’ hierarchy punted for somebody else when the season finishes, irrespective of the fact that he looks set to win the club’s battle to stay in the Premier League.
Celtic fans might baulk at the suggestion but, like Rodgers, Moyes has a strong affinity for the Hoops and told The Liverpool Echo in 2010 that he planned on managing the Scottish giants one day.
Where is he going to go if West Ham don’t keep him on? It’s either another Premier League club who will replace him as soon as someone better comes along, the Championship, or the chance to lead his boyhood club to history.
He would certainly consider Celtic, but would they consider him? Time will tell.
