Daniel Arzani was replaced shortly after the hour-mark of Celtic’s reserve side’s latest clash.
One of the most intriguing players within Brendan Rodgers’ squad right now is Daniel Arzani, with the Australian yet to play for the Celtic first-team since arriving on a two-year loan deal in the summer.
Arzani arrived with a big reputation having joined Manchester City permanently shortly before heading to Parkhead. But Rodgers is yet to include him in any of his squads this season.
Instead, Arzani has had to settle for several outings in the Hoops’ reserve side. And while he recently provided a glimpse of his quality with a stunning free-kick, perhaps it is his latest appearance that could just hint that he may be in contention for a senior bow this week.
Arzani played 62 minutes of the Bhoys’ 3-1 defeat to Morton on Tuesday. The result may not have helped Arzani’s cause, but the attacking midfielder being subbed off with just under half an hour left is interesting, especially as Celtic would have looked at the youngster as one of the players who could have potentially turned the game around.
Perhaps his early withdrawal provides a hint that he could be in Rodgers’ plans as he puts together his squad for tomorrow’s League Cup game at St Johnstone.
The game appears to present an excellent chance to throw Arzani in, especially as he should now be as up to speed as a player can be without actually playing for the first-team.
It is possible that Arzani was replaced as he was struggling to make an impact on the game – he had been booked for diving shortly before being subbed – but perhaps it should not be the greatest surprise if the change was made with one eye being kept on tomorrow’s game.
