Newcastle United are said to be looking to sign Dani Garcia on a free transfer.

Garcia’s contract at Eibar is due to expire, meaning he could be brought in on a free.
And the Magpies are now said to be keen to bring Garcia to St. James’ Park.
The 27-year-old could be a potential bargain, but there would have to be questions over what his arrival would mean for Mikel Merino.

Merino and Garcia possess similar skill-sets, with the pair both liking to create from deep.
If Garcia was to arrive it seems like he would be in direct competition with Merino for a place in Newcastle’s team, and there may be an argument to suggest that Rafael Benitez doesn’t need both.
That could put Merino’s place in the Magpies’ squad under threat, with his future already being speculated about.
Merino has been linked with a return to Spain recently, as his form has dipped.

The former Borussia Dortmund man impressed over the early part of the campaign following his £7 million switch, but he has fallen out of favour more recently.
And Garcia’s arrival could mean that Merino has to move on, in search of more regular game time.
