Could Chris Coleman bring Hal Robson-Kanu with him to Sunderland?

The Wales manager has been backed into heavy favourite to take over at Sunderland.

As The Guardian reports, Wales boss Chris Coleman is now the heavy favourite to take over at Sunderland.

The 47-year-old is in Sunderland’s sights after a failed move for Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill, according to The Guardian.

Wales Online cites the odds on Coleman being named as Simon Grayson’s replacement having been slashed to as low as 1/10 with one bookmaker.

The former Crystal Palace defender has led a Welsh resurgence over his five-year tenure and might want to sign some of his international heroes for the Black Cats.

While the likes of Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey are obviously out of Sunderland’s reach, Hal Robson-Kanu to the Stadium of Light is more realistic.

The 28-year-old has never been a star at club level, scoring only seven goals in two and a half seasons, but Coleman got the best out of him for Wales.

Robson-Kanu scored a crucial goal against Scotland to help Wales qualify for Euro 2016 – their first major tournament in 58 years – and then notched twice in Wales run to the semi-finals in France.

The forward has only started two league games for West Bromwich Albion this season and Coleman should be able to prise him away at little cost in January.

Coleman fell short of guiding Wales to next summer’s World Cup in Russia and may now consider a new challenge. Sunderland, bottom of the Championship, would certainly be that.
