Nottingham Forest are hopeful of sealing a loan deal for Chelsea defender Jake Clarke-Salter in the January transfer window, reports ESPN.

Although extremely well regarded at Stamford Bridge, with manager Antonio Conte already having so many options at centre-back the youngster is well down the pecking order for a first team spot.

There are many Championship clubs keeping an eye on Clarke-Salter, but Forest boss Mark Warburton is hoping his proactive approach will see his club land the 20-year-old.

If the England Under-20 international does arrive at the County Ground then there is potential for the Blues starlet to have as big an impact as another Premier League loanee in Kieran Dowell.

Dowell is currently on a season-long loan from Everton and has scored eight goals in 22 league matches already this season.

The midfielder and Clarke-Salter were teammates and key figures when England were triumphant at the Under-20 World Cup over the summer.

Warburton has already shown he has an eye for a youngster from the top flight in Dowell and has the potential to repeat the feat in the loan market in the new year.
