Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong is attracting West Bromwich Albion’s attention, and Brendan Rodgers should view the interest as an opportunity.

Ross McCrorie of Rangers vies with Stuart Armstrong of Celtic during the Scottish Premier League match between Celtic and Ranger at Celtic Park on December 30, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

According to a report from the Daily Record over the weekend, West Brom are amongst the clubs interested in signing Stuart Armstrong from Celtic as the Hoops get ready to sell the 26-year-old midfielder before he enters the final year of his contract.

Armstrong has been superb for the Bhoys over the last two seasons, and it is little surprise that the Baggies are monitoring his situation along with the likes of Southampton, Brighton and Crystal Palace, as reported by the Record.

Brendan Rodgers, manager of Celtic looks on ahead of the Scottish Cup Final between Motherwell and Celtic at Hampden Park on May 19, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Given that Darren Moore’s men were relegated this past season while their three rivals for Armstrong’s signature all remain in the Premier League, it would appear that West Brom could face an uphill battle trying to make a deal happen.

But perhaps Celtic should consider reaching out to the Baggies in the hope that they could strike a deal that would see both sides land one of their respective targets.

The Daily Mirror’s live transfer feed (05/05; 21:53) reported that Celtic wanted to sign £15 million-rated Craig Dawson from West Brom but faced plenty of competition for his signature.

Ideally, the Baggies would love to keep Dawson. He was excellent despite their struggles this past season, and stopping him from leaving would be a superb piece of business from the club.

However, if the defender makes it clear at any stage that he wants to leave and West Brom become resigned to losing the 28-year-old, perhaps they should be willing to consider discussing the kind of deal that would see Dawson head to Parkhead and Armstrong move in the opposite direction.

With a £15 million asking price, a potential swap surely seems to be the best way that the Hoops can stand a chance of getting the defender through the door.
