The summer transfer window isn’t far away now and it’ll be interesting to see if Celtic and Aston Villa renew their reported interest in Scott McKenna.
The Scottish centre-back was the subject of bids by both Celtic and Aston Villa last summer, but he wound up staying at Aberdeen after they slapped a £10 million price on him [The Record].
McKenna will face one of his potential suitors in a Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden Park tomorrow, and a solid performance might well prompt the Parkhead club to take another look.
And interestingly, they might not have Villa to worry about over the coming months.
The Villans signed Kortney Hause and Tyrone Mings on loan during the January transfer window.
The defensive duo have been outstanding for manager Dean Smith and if he can sign both on a permanent basis, which isn’t all that unlikely, then it surely favours Celtic if they’re still interested in McKenna.
It wouldn’t exactly clear the path for the Bhoys to take a free run at the 22-year-old, because other English sides could easily lodge an interest, but if Aston Villa are out of the picture then that surely benefits the Scottish Premiership champions.
