Celtic and Newcastle United reportedly wanted to sign Charly Musonda from Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

Celtic and Newcastle United were linked with moves for Chelsea youngster Charly Musonda in the summer transfer window.
According to The Chronicle, Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez considered signing the 21-year-old, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger.
The Daily Record reported in the summer that Celtic were preparing a £5 million offer for Belgium Under-21 international attacker.

Musonda, though, remained at Chelsea, and the youngster has only just put pen to paper on a new contract with the London club.
As announced on the Blues’ official website on Friday, the Belgian has signed a new contract until 2022.
This means that Celtic and Newcastle are not going to be able to sign the youngster on permanent contract in the January transfer window, but could a loan deal happen?

Possibly. Chelsea have a strong and competitive team, and it is not going to be easy for the youngster to get regular playing time this season.
Given that Musonda has played a total of just 26 minutes in the Premier League so far this season, he could be convinced by Celtic or Newcastle to make a temporary switch away from Stamford Bridge in January in order to develop himself further and play regular football.
With Newcastle struggling for survival in the Premier League at the moment and Celtic through to the round-of-32 of the Europa League, Musonda would enhance the quality of either team’s attack.
