Tottenham Hotspur youngster Cameron Carter-Vickers is currently out on loan, but is struggling for game-time.
With Cameron Carter-Vickers still yet to make his Premier League debut for Tottenham, the defender would have been forgiven for feeling that his latest spell with Swansea City was a key one for his future with Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
With the likes of Juan Foyth and Davinson Sanchez still at Spurs and looking to cement their place in the club’s future, Carter-Vickers arguably needs a fantastic stint with the Swans, especially as he is set to be 21 by the time he returns to his parent club.
Unfortunately for Carter-Vickers, he appears to be losing momentum. He has only made two appearances for Graham Potter’s side, and has been an unused substitute for their last four games.
He may be kicking himself over leaving on loan, especially as a report on the fitness of Tottenham teammate Jan Vertonghen perhaps hints that the opportunity he would have been looking for with Spurs may have now potentially opened up at a time when he cannot capitalise.
The Daily Mirror reports that Spurs fear that Vertonghen could be out until the Champions League clash with Barcelona in mid-December. That is 13 games that Pochettino will not have the Belgian available.
While he cannot feature in Europe, that presents a golden chance for Foyth to potentially push to get a run in the team, and had he still be at the club, Carter-Vickers may have also been in contention to get some game-time – even though he cannot get into a Championship side right now.
Not playing when so much seems to ride on his spell with Swansea may be frustrating for Carter-Vickers, and the fact that Vertonghen’s injury has come at a time when he is out of the picture may compound that frustration further.
