Aston Villa are said to be interested in signing Burton Albion midfielder Jackson Irvine.
According to a report in Estadio Deportivo, Aston Villa are set to sell Carles Gil to Real Betis this summer – and that move could help Steve Bruce finance some of his own additions.
Villa are believed to be set to land around £4.5 million up-front for Gil, and that money could all be used to give Bruce some funds to invest.
The claret and blues are yet to make a signing this summer – which is in stark contrast to their business a year ago.

Villa invested heavily during the previous summer transfer window, but have had to cut costs and spend more prudently this time around.
And it could be that Gil’s exit kick-starts Villa’s business – with Bruce known to be looking to add.
Villa are thought to be considering making a bid for Burton Albion’s Jackson Irvine (Burton Mail), and Gil’s departure could finance that move.

Irvine looks like a natural replacement for Gil, given the two midfielder’s attacking instincts.
Burton are known to want to keep hold of Irvine, but they simply do not have the financial power of many of their Championship rivals.
And if Villa do now have the funds to secure Irvine’s signature, they should attempt to get the deal done sooner rather than later – with interest growing in the Australian international.
