Glasgow Rangers have been handed a boost with the news that Cameron Palmer has signed a new contract with the Ibrox side until 2020.

While Rangers’ most recent result may have left the fans feeling somewhat deflated, there is no question that the Gers are moving in the right direction with Graeme Murty quickly putting together an exciting, young squad that look to have the potential to really establish themselves alongside their rivals at the summit of the Scottish game.
What should excite Rangers fans about their squad even further is that they appear to have a cluster of very talented youngsters pushing through into Murty’s plans.

The development side have beaten some seriously strong teams this season, and one of the players to have really impressed in that time is midfielder Cameron Palmer.
The 17-year-old has featured regularly and looks to be developing into a very decent player for the Gers’ youth side, and he has handed the club a major boost with the news that he has signed a new deal until 2020.
The length of the contract highlights how highly Rangers rate the teenager as they could have quite easily offered a shorter deal while he continues to develop and then looked to extend the terms further if he started to realise his potential.

And perhaps the faith that the club have shown in Palmer just hints that if Rangers have second place wrapped up in the Scottish Premiership with a few games to go this term, Murty may consider handing the youngster some minutes in the first-team, especially if they also have a Scottish Cup final to look forward to.
Ross McCrorie has shown how quickly an academy starlet can establish themselves in the first-team, and if Palmer gets the chance this season, who is to say that he could not make enough of an impression to put himself in with a shout of more chances in the first-team next term?
