The young attacker has been linked with a summer switch to Leeds United.
According to a recent report from Ghana Soccernet, Leeds United are interested in signing Caleb Ekuban this summer, and if the 22-year-old does ultimately arrive at Elland Road it could be his ability to play anywhere across the front line that leads to his success.
Ekuban is predominantly a striker, and he scored the vast majority of his 18 goals this season from that position. However, the young Ghanaian can also operate on both flanks and it is from there that Leeds could really benefit if they can find a way to get the best out of him while sticking with Chris Wood up front.
Leeds struggled from wide areas this season, with the likes of Stuart Dallas, Hadi Sakho and Alfonso Pedraza failing to make any significant impact in terms of goals and Mo Barrow disappearing as quickly as he arrived.
While Sakho has agreed a permanent deal at Elland Road, Barrow and Pedraza have returned to their parent clubs, leaving Leeds light on the wing.
Ekuban would offer a potentially exciting alternative to Wood when the New Zealand international is unavailable but he should not only be seen as a back-up option, with his ability to play on either the left or the right meaning Leeds could have considerably more goal threat by including him in their starting XI.
Ekuban’s tally this season proves he has an innate ability in front of goal and if Leeds want to go one better and achieve promotion in 2018 they need goals from all over the park.
Kemar Roofe should be better in his second season at Leeds while Sakho needs to turn sporadic moments of brilliance into consistency, and if Ekuban arrives and can play as well out wide as he does up front, whoever replaces Garry Monk could have an exciting additional goal-getter on their hands.
