Leeds United fans got an early glimpse of Caleb Ekuban’s work rate prior to the summer signing’s injury setback, but could the 23-year-old have a vital role to play for the Whites over the Christmas and New Year period?
Ekuban was ruled out for eight weeks after having surgery on a broken bone in his foot in early September, which means he could be back out on the training field in November.
If his recovery goes according to plan, Leeds manager Thomas Christiansen could be able to call on Ekuban in December, when the matches are coming thick and fast and the Whites will need to utilise their entire squad to bring maximum points back to Elland Road.
While Pierre-Michel Lasogga is now Leeds’ undisputed first choice striker, Ekuban showed enough against Fulham in the league and Port Vale in the EFL Cup to suggest he has a significant role to play when he is back to his best.
A goal and an assist in the cup clash was a tantalising glimpse of his ability and Leeds are going to need the Ghanaian fit and firing in the second half of the campaign.
What started so well has taken an alarming dip and Leeds need to get back on the scoring trail to ensure they finish in the top six come May.
Expect Ekuban to play his part, ultimately becoming a fan favourite in the process.
