All good things come to an end eventually, and you wonder what would keep Brendan Rodgers at Celtic next season if he masterminds another treble.

Celtic Manager Brendan Rodgers celebrates during the William Hill Scottish Cup Final between Celtic and Aberdeen at Hampden Park on May 27, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

By virtue of the fact that Celtic won a domestic treble last season without losing a game, you could say pretty definitively that Brendan Rodgers has been a huge success in Glasgow.

Such is Celtic’s dominance in Scotland that few would be surprised if the Hoops – unbeaten in 53 domestic matches – manage to successfully defend all three trophies.

If that were to happen then you wonder whether the former Liverpool and Swansea manager would be once again sought after by Premier League clubs – and you also wonder whether he could be persuaded to return to England’s top flight.

How could he possibly do more for the Scottish giants than he already has done, if another treble materialises? Sure, he could look to guide them into the last-16 of the Champions League – presuming Rodgers’s side, paired with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich in this season’s group stage, fail this season – but is that enough incentive to stay on?

The 44-year-old is an ambitious young manager, and the prospect of leading Celtic into the knockout phase of Europe’s elite competition, or ensuring that the Bhoys continue to dwarf Old Firm rivals Rangers, is unlikely to appeal to him.

Bringing them to the last-16 phase would be impressive, but is it so impressive that it’s worth staying on another season to achieve? Probably not.

He has already performed miracles and eventually he is bound to want more of a challenge. If another treble follows this season then it’ll become clear that Scottish football is too easy for him.

Rodgers is contracted to the Parkhead club until 2021, after signing a new deal in April, but Celtic will do very well to keep him there that long if he continues at the same pace.
