According to a report from Sky Sports earlier in the month, Everton are eyeing a summer move for PSV Eindhoven technical director Marcel Brands as the Toffees consider an overhaul of their recruitment structure.

It has been an underwhelming season at Goodison Park and they could still finish as low as 10th – though that would require a very surprising run of results – so the Everton fans may be hoping that Brands has some exciting plans if he ends up on Merseyside during the summer.

PSV have secured the Eredivisie title this season, so it would be little surprise if his current side did provide the inspiration for one or two targets for the upcoming window, and perhaps one player is making himself an option that Brands simply has to consider this summer.

Gaston Pereiro is finishing the season in incredible form. The 22-year-old has scored five goals in his last five appearances, including a brace in Sunday’s draw with ADO Den Haag, while he has also provided two assists in that time.

He now has 11 league goals for the campaign in just 27 appearances – he has made 20 starts in that time – and that kind of run, and the timing of it, must surely bring him onto Brands’ radar if he heads to the Premier League.

Everton could arguably do with strengthening their options in wide areas during the coming months, and Pereiro’s ability to play anywhere in the areas just behind the striker could make him a fantastic target to consider for the summer. And he is certainly doing all he can to put himself in the shop window with his current form.
