Glasgow Rangers fans would love to see Billy Gilmour back at Ibrox, and perhaps his comments should alert Steven Gerrard.

Despite never appearing for Rangers’ first-team before his departure, Billy Gilmour is potentially the player in recent years that the Gers are kicking themselves over losing most.

Gilmour appears to be notching up achievements at Chelsea with alarming regularity, and he looks destined to be one of the rare few who break through their academy system and go on to make their mark in the Blues first-team.

But, while Rangers may not get the chance to get the 17-year-old back on their books permanently anytime soon, perhaps Steven Gerrard should take note of some comments that the teenager has made regarding his immediate future at Stamford Bridge.

In comments reported by the Daily Record, Gilmour has hinted that he would be open to considering a loan move as he continues his development.

“You see all the boys going out on loan at Chelsea and how much it’s benefiting them,” he said, as reported by the Daily Record.

“Jake Clarke-Salter and Fikayo Tomori are out just now at Vitesse Arnhem in Holland and at Derby County.

“Tammy Abraham is at Aston Villa and Mason Mount is another at Derby and he has just been called into the full England squad.”

Chelsea may have their own plans regarding where Gilmour should go if he does leave temporarily, but Rangers should definitely make a bid in January.

Steven Gerrard, Manager of Rangers looks on prior to the UEFA Europa League Group G match between Rangers and SK Rapid Wien at Ibrox Stadium on October 4, 2018 in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

If Gerrard’s men find themselves in the title hunt in the Scottish Premiership and remain in the Europa League after Christmas, they should be looking to add more quality to their squad to ensure that their momentum does not evaporate.

Gilmour could obviously prove to be an inspired signing. He would be returning to familiar surroundings at a club with huge stature who regularly play in important games. It is difficult to think of many better avenues for Chelsea to look at should they decide to loan Gilmour out.

And if Rangers do decide to move and manage to get something done, then perhaps Gilmour will get the chance to enjoy a much more satisfying end to his Ibrox career.
