Could Ben Mee follow in Kieran Trippier’s footsteps at Tottenham?

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Burnley defender Ben Mee as he continues to impress in the Premier League.

In terms of the shrewdest pieces of business that Tottenham have pulled off in recent years, signing Kieran Trippier from Burnley for just £3.5 million in 2015 – fee reported by BBC Sport – has to be up there.

Trippier was excellent for the Clarets and proved to be a brilliant addition to Spurs’ squad at a time when they were starting to look like a team that was looking to challenge on multiple fronts.

And in the wake of Kyle Walker’s departure for Manchester City last summer, the 27-year-old has really stepped up and made sure that he was not relegated to second choice again in the wake of Serge Aurier’s arrival.

And Trippier’s career with Spurs should convince Tottenham fans that if they do make a move for Ben Mee in the summer, he could also become a success story for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

The Sun on Sunday (25th March 2018; page 63) has suggested that Spurs could make a move for the £20 million-rated defender at the end of the campaign as he continues to impress for Sean Dyche’s side.

Burnley have conceded just one league goal more than Spurs this term, and Mee has been a key reason why the Clarets’ record is so impressive right now.

It may be something of a surprise if Spurs did decide to pursue Mee given his reported asking price, but Trippier’s development since joining Tottenham suggests that writing any of Dyche’s players off being able to step up further in a similar manner may be a very foolish move.
