The Tottenham Hotspur defender may be needed centrally due to injuries and suspensions.
Even before Davinson Sanchez’s red card against Watford on Saturday, Tottenham Hotspur were low on quality centre-backs following Toby Alderweireld’s injury.
But now Mauricio Pochettino has to decide how to cope in the absence of two of his three first-choice defenders, and one wonders if Ben Davies is set for a spell in the centre.
Tottenham have impressed when playing three at the back this season and, while they reverted to a flat back four against Watford, they could still play three at the back if required, with Davies playing on the left alongside Jan Vertonghen and Eric Dier.
Alternatively, if Pochettino considers Dier’s impact in midfield as too important to lose, Davies could play alongside Vertonghen with Danny Rose coming in at left-back.
The latter option may be worth considering if Tottenham do not yet feel that Juan Foyth is ready to start Premier League games, especially with the pressure on Spurs to start getting back to winning ways after a spell of four matches without a victory.
Davies is more than capable of playing in the centre but it is ultimately down to the manager how to get the best out of what he has left for the upcoming clash against Stoke City.
