Robbie Savage told Friday’s Fan Forum that Tottenham don’t have a player like Leicester City’s technician James Maddison.

The BBC and BT Sport pundit thinks Maddison could be ‘key’ as Brendan Rodgers side locks horns with his old mentor, Jose Mourinho, and title-chasers Tottenham Hotspur tonight.

Injuries have resulted in the £20 million signing [BBC Sport] to stand still in recent months, but since his return, he has started to hit the right form and he was on song during his side’s 3-0 thumping of Brighton last week

Tottenham will host the Foxes in a few hours time and Savage shared how a player like Maddison could be crucial.

“I think a key player in this game, we were talking about how important it is to have somebody between the lines in the final third, and that’s Maddison,” said Savage.

“He hasn’t been quite back to his best. I know he scored a couple of great goals against Brighton. That player between the lines could be important in a game like this.

“Spurs haven’t got one. I know Kane drops in there but you would say he is a number nine. Maddison could be key.”

In truth, Tottenham haven’t needed that ball-carrying playmaker because they have had Harry Kane running the show from deep.

Plus, Spurs do have someone like Tanguy Ndombele who attacks those pockets with aggression, power and trickery.

But the two players who will put their hands up in regards to matching Maddison’s qualities are the Argentinian duo Giovani Lo Celso and Erik Lamela.
