Some Aston Villa fans on social media are getting rather excited after they were linked with a move for Mehdi Zerkane.
The Villans are reportedly keen on signing the Bordeaux winger this summer, and this news has sent the fanbase into a bit of a frenzy.
On the surface, Zerkane doesn’t look like a player who is that exciting. After all, he has scored just one goal all season in Ligue 1 in a struggling Bordeaux side.
However, the fact that Villa currently employ Rob Mackenzie, a man who has a habit of unearthing gems, has filled some Villa fans with confidence.
Inevitably, when signing a a young tricky winger from the French league, comparisons to Riyad Mahrez immediately surfaced, and while we can’t say that Zerkane will become anywhere near as good as the Manchester City star, it’s certainly exciting to hear that this comparison is being drawn.
Of course, whether or not Villa sign Zerkane remains to be seen, but it’s fair to say that if he arrived it would be a popular signing amongst Villa fans.
