Everton need goal-scorers and the young German has great potential.
Having said goodbye to one of the Premier League’s most dangerous strikers in the form of Romelu Lukaku, Everton would have been hoping to replace him this summer, but while the Toffees have impressed with their transfer business, that is the one area of the field where they could be lacking.
Wayne Rooney has impressed since returning to Goodison Park and Sandro Ramirez will come good in time, while Gylfi Sigurdsson guarantees goals, albeit from further back. However, with four competitions to deal with this season, Everton boss Ronald Koeman may look at his brilliant under-23 side for more options as the campaign goes on.
One such player is 19-year-old Bassala Sambou, who is over his injury problems and looking to kick on this season.
It was not long ago that Everton’s under-23 coach David Unsworth told the Liverpool Echo that Sambou reminded him of a young Danny Welbeck.
“(He is) very raw really quick, likes to get in behind a goal-scorer who can score all sorts of goals,” Unsworth said back in April.
Everton could do with that now, especially given Rooney’s ageing legs and the prospect of Sigurdsson supplying killer passes for a player willing to run past defenders.
Lukaku’s pace was used to devastating affect prior to his exit and in time Sambou will be hoping to follow a similar path.
No one is suggesting Everton should put their faith in the teenager from the outset, but with EFL Cup, FA Cup and Europa League matches as well as Premier League duties, do not be surprised if the Everton youngster gets the call in due course.
