Robbie Fowler has warned Marcelo Bielsa that his failure to sign anybody at Leeds United could ‘backfire’ on the Argentine manager.
Leeds had a very quiet January transfer window.
Despite speculation linking United with a number of players, a transfer to Elland Road never materialised for any of their reported targets.
Bielsa’s outfit finished the January window 15th in the Premier League standings, seven points clear of the relegation zone.
However, injuries have been rife within the Leeds squad this season and former Whites marksman Fowler believes that the West Yorkshire club could potentially regret not strengthening when they had the opportunity.
He told The Mirror: “No signings when you have key players injured? You’re gambling on fitness, which is never wise. That could backfire.
Risky decision
Indeed, it wouldn’t be a major surprise if Leeds did get sucked into a relegation battle.
After all, they’ve spent most of the campaign flirting in and around the bottom three without ever really falling into it.
But anything that could go wrong at Elland Road often does – especially regarding injuries – and failing to sign anyone in January is absolutely a risky decision by Bielsa and the powers-that-be in Yorkshire.
