Glasgow Rangers are reportedly hoping to bring Ryan Kent to Ibrox this summer, but the Gers face plenty of competition.

While Rangers fans will be hoping for a big summer that sets them up for a Scottish Premiership title push, it would be no surprise if Steven Gerrard felt that one particular piece of business was more crucial than everything else he has up his sleeve.
Ryan Kent was outstanding for much of his loan spell at Ibrox this past season, and The Sun recently reported that Gerrard is keen to bring him back for another campaign. However, they face competition for his signature.
The same report from The Sun noted that Aston Villa are also interested in the winger. And with the Villans now able to offer Premier League football, the Light Blues may have feared that their chances of a fresh deal had been dented.
However, perhaps a recent report concerning Villa’s summer business hints at being good news for Rangers.

Le10 Sport suggested over the weekend that the Villans had made an £8.9 million bid for Brentford winger Said Benrahma.
Presuming that Villa are yet to make a bid for Kent, it would be safe to suggest that Benrahma is higher up on Smith’s shopping list. And with the two players both arguably at their best on the left wing, it may not be too great a leap to suggest that signing Benrahma would take Villa out of the running to sign Kent.
Rangers certainly will not want to relax until Kent is back through the Ibrox door. But Villa stepping up their efforts to sign other targets arguably hints that the opportunity is there for the Gers to take charge of the race.
