The Aston Villa boss is said to be a long-term admirer of Brighton & Hove Albion’s Israeli midfielder.

Aston Villa were strongly linked with a move for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Beram Kayal last autumn, before the Israeli signed a new two-and-a-half-year deal (the Sun).
Villa boss Steve Bruce had reportedly pursued Kayal since his Hull City days and with a promotion push of his own to engineer next season, could the 28-year-old – who also knows Villans number 2 Colin Calderwood from the Scot’s Amex days – again come into his thinking in the coming months?
What’s his situation?
Kayal has spent most of 2017 playing catch up, having missed three months of the campaign through injury. However, he’s made just nine starts since his return.

Do Aston Villa still need him?
Villa acquired three new central midfielders in January, although, unlike Kayal, neither are especially fond of the defensive side of things. With Mile Jedinak spending time at centre-half in recent weeks, an alternative to the Aussie could come in handy.
Could they get him this summer?
Much will depend on how Brighton approach the summer transfer window, and whether or not midfield duo Steve Sidwell and Dale Stephens are offered/sign new deals respectively. The Seagulls have already been linked with a move for Liverpool’s Kevin Stewart, which could push Kayal down the pecking order.
