Aston Villa are reportedly interested in Chelsea defender Ethan Ampadu with Derby County.

According to the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa want Ethan Ampadu and they could have a route to convincing him to move to Villa Park.

Villa and Derby County are both said to be chasing Ampadu in the January transfer window.

And if the claret and blues are to win the race for Ampadu then Gary Cahill may well be need to be signed.

Villa have been linked with Cahill in the Birmingham Mail, and his arrival would likely help in the race for Ampadu.

If Villa were to sign Ampadu they would have the Chelsea youngster’s two idols at the club, with the Welsh international hailing both John Terry and Cahill.

Aston Villa assistant coach John Terry during the Sky Bet Championship between Aston Villa and Bolton Wanderers at Villa Park on November 2, 2018 in Birmingham, England.

“When I became a centre-back, I used to look at role models like John Terry and Gary Cahill,” he said to Devon Live earlier this year.

Terry, of course, joined Villa as Dean Smith’s assistant, as he takes his first steps into management.

And if Smith wants to give himself the best chance of encouraging Ampadu to move to Villa Park then signing Cahill could give them an advantage over Derby.
