According to a report in the Daily Record, Alfredo Morelos wants a pay rise at Glasgow Rangers – and the scenario could be playing right into Aston Villa’s hands.

Rangers striker Morelos has been said to be on Villa’s wishlist by the Birmingham Mail, with Steve Bruce’s side keen to bring him to Villa Park.

Villa could not afford to compete for Morelos in the January transfer window, with the Colombian targeted by Chinese clubs.

Rangers had to reject £7.5 million bids for Morelos last month, but Villa must be watching the situation develop with keen interest.

Morelos is said to be demanding a pay rise at Ibrox, as Rangers denied him his chance to move to China.

And if Rangers cannot afford to agree a new contract with Morelos, it could give Villa a chance to land the striker in six months’ time.

Villa are likely need to be promoted to be able to afford Morelos, but with the Rangers striker seemingly unsettled, Bruce’s side must be optimistic about their chances of landing the prolific forward.
