David Moyes is charged with keeping West Ham United in the Premier League and if he manages it his first phone call could be to Aston Villa this summer.
Moyes has replaced sacked Slaven Bilic at West Ham following a torrid start to the season which culminated in the 4-1 drubbing at home to Liverpool last time out.
With just two wins from the first 11 games, the writing was on the wall for Bilic but there has been apathy and anger from Hammers fans over the appointment of Moyes.
The former Sunderland, Manchester United and Everton boss has won some sceptical fans over since with his bullish interviews and press conference.
Aston Villa could yet swap places with West Ham in the football pyramid at the end of the season.
But if Moyes has the same effect on his players as he has had the fans so far then he has a great chance of keeping the East Londoners up given the quality available to him.
There has been lots of media speculation over potential transfers since Moyes joined last Tuesday and although he has been brought in on an initial six month contract, he is on a promise it will be extended should he turn the club around.
If he manages that could his first port of call this summer be Aston Villa to bring back fellow Scot Robert Snodgrass from the cold.
Snodgrass was signed for £10 million back in January but failed to impress last season under Bilic and was bombed out on loan to Steve Bruce’s Villa in the summer.
The former Leeds United man hit out at Bilic in the press after leaving claiming he did not know what position Snodgrass played.
There would be no such problem for Moyes and should he stay at West Ham in the medium to long-term could he resurrect the attacking midfielder’s career.
Snodgrass has slowly started to rediscover his best form for Villa and could come back to East London rejuvenated.
Moyes will be keen to bolster the club’s British core and hardworking Snodgrass fits the manager’s profile.
Villa have first option to buy the ex-Hull City playmaker but Moyes could put a stop to that if he thinks he can coax the best out of him for the remainder of his Hammers contract.
