Michael O’Neill has been linked with the Glasgow Rangers post, so could an appointment help bring Steven Davis back to Ibrox one day?

Davis was one of a number of players to make themselves a free agent when the Gers were demoted to the bottom tier, and thus, there may well be a number of fans who may have felt betrayed and now have little desire to see him return to Ibrox in the future.

However, there may be some fans who would love to see the midfielder come back at some stage in the coming years, especially as he has arguably been one of the most consistent performers in the Premier League over the last few seasons.
And perhaps it may not be out of the question to suggest that any hopes that Rangers may have – and there is no reason to believe that they are actually keen on bringing Davis back apart from the fact that he has been brilliant over the years – would be boosted if they managed to land a manager they are reportedly interested in talking to as they look to fill the vacancy at Ibrox.

Davis has been O’Neill’s captain, and together they have helped the country enjoy one of their best periods in their recent history as they reached Euro 2016 and came within a play-off of reaching the World Cup.
If Rangers do manage to land O’Neill, you would imagine that a return to Ibrox would appeal to Davis a lot more as he is a manager who he knows very well.
He may not want to return straight away, but Davis’ form suggests that he still has a good few years near the top of his game and could be a fantastic asset if the Gers did want him. And having the opportunity to take Rangers back to the level they were at before he left would surely give him the motivation he needs to give everything to ensure that he can bring a much more satisfactory conclusion to his Ibrox career if he ended up with a second chance.
