Could appointing Graham Potter see Celtic target Connor Roberts again?

Celtic have been linked with a summer approach for Graham Potter as they consider their next permanent manager.

It was reported by The Sun on Sunday (14/4; page 61) over the weekend that Graham Potter is one of the names that Celtic are considering approaching as they look for Brendan Rodgers’ permanent successor.

It is becoming more and more difficult to imagine the Bhoys deciding against extending Neil Lennon’s spell as the Hoops continue to cruise towards another domestic treble. But the speculation will surely continue until an announcement is made either way.

And it appears that Swansea City boss Potter is one of the men being considered by the board. The Englishman has made an encouraging start to life at the Liberty Stadium, but it was an outstanding spell at Ostersunds that made many sit up and take notice.

His ability to create an identity in his teams may well appeal to Celtic, who will be looking to maintain their domestic dominance and make more of an impact in Europe in the coming years.

If Potter arrives, then perhaps one of the first issues that he may look to address is the situation at right-back. Mikael Lustig has enjoyed a good run under Lennon but, in an ideal world, he would surely be the understudy next season.

And perhaps appointing Potter would tempt Celtic to go back in for a player that they reportedly had an interest in earlier in the season.

As reported by the Daily Record, the Hoops were keen on Swans star Connor Roberts. But he put an end to speculation by signing a new contract that is set to run until 2022.

Of course, he will be significantly more expensive after signing that deal. But with the Independent recently suggesting that the club’s finances remain precarious, they may perhaps be willing to listen to serious offers for their players this summer.

And as Roberts could be an outstanding addition to the Celtic lineup, he is certainly the kind of player that the Bhoys should be looking at again at the end of the season, particularly if the Hoops spring a surprise and manage to land Potter as their next boss.
