Aston Villa sold Adama Traore to Middlesbrough back in 2016.

Aston Villa owner Tony Xia may have hinted that Adama Traore could be his side’s unlikely saviour this summer.

Villa are in need to raise significant funds to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations, after failing to earn promotion this past season.

Villa lost in the play off final to Fulham last Saturday, and there are now significant fears that the Midlands club could take cost cutting measures over the summer.

The claret and blues are expected to lose key stars, but the deal they did for Traore back in 2016, may just turn out to be very smart now.

Xia has hinted on Twitter that Villa have a clause in the contract which will allow them to benefit from Traore’s success.

Whether that clause was a promotion bonus or a sell on clause remains to be seen, but Villa fans on Twitter are hoping that it is the latter.

Traore has been linked with a £30 million transfer to Chelsea in the Daily Mirror this summer, and if Villa can take chunk of that fee, it would go a significant way to helping them raise funds for the new season.
