Everton reportedly want to sign Manchester United ace Chris Smalling.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, Manchester United are interested in Barcelona centre-back Samuel Umtiti.
The French defender, valued at around £98.9 million according to CIES Football Observatory, is being lined up for a new deal with the Catalan giants, but the Red Devils could throw a spanner in the works.
If he winds up at Old Trafford, it would mean that Jose Mourinho would have to sell someone to make room – and that could be good news for Everton.
The Mirror reported earlier this week that Everton were interested in signing Chris Smalling this summer, and a big-money deal for Umtiti could offset the England international’s move to Goodison Park.

With that being said, Phil Jones is also being linked with a move away from the Theatre of Dreams, so Mourinho could just as easy offload Jones and keep the reported Toffees target in Manchester instead.
In any case, Smalling would be a huge upgrade for Everton and you wonder if the Merseyside club might be hoping that United can strike a deal for the France stalwart in the coming months.
