Wolverhampton born former Molineux man Sam Winnall has scored nine goals for Barnsley this season.
69 goals in 160 games since leaving Molineux – is it time for Wolverhampton Wanderers to bring back Sam Winnall?
Wolves boss Paul Lambert has already confirmed he intends to add to his strike force in January [Express & Star], with none of the current crop finding the net since August in a Championship fixture.
In the same four-month period Winnall has found the net on nine occasions for Barnsley, eliminating any doubt there may have been about his ability to step up after three seasons in Leagues One and Two.
Barnsley’s Sam Winnall
With the Wolverhampton-born striker’s contract expiring at the end of the campaign, the 25-year-old is a potential bargain for someone next month – and Lambert should do everything in his power to ensure that Wolves are the beneficiaries.
Sporting director Kevin Thelwell has already hinted at domestic buys in the coming transfer window [Express & Star], with only four of their summer acquisitions arriving from English clubs, and Winnall would be a solid start.
