The West Ham captain says Chelsea should have been reduced to 10 men during Monday’s London derby, which saw the Blues run out 2-1 winners.
Noble was unhappy about Costa’s challenge on goalkeeper Adrian
West Ham United midfielder Mark Noble has backed the use of video technology to help referees, the Daily Star has reported.
Noble was left fuming by referee Anthony Taylor’s failure to send off Chelsea striker Diego Costa during his side’s 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge, despite replays suggesting the Spaniard was guilty of a nasty studs-up challenge on Hammers keeper Adrian.
The former Atletico ace, who was already on a booking at the time of the challenge, eventually scored the winner for the Blues, handing boss Antonio Conte victory in his first game as Chelsea manager.
However Noble is adamant that Taylor would have handed Costa his marching orders if video technology had been used, adding that referees should be given a more of a helping hand in order to ensure they make the correct decisions.
According to the Daily Star, Noble said: “How long does it take? It probably takes about five seconds for someone upstairs to look at a video. And that works both ways then.
“I never blame the refs because I know how tough it is, how fast the play goes, how difficult it is to keep up with the play. But someone has got to give us some help.”
The West Ham captain added that the success of goal-line technology in the Premier League shows that such methods can have a positive impact on how games are officiated in the top flight.
“We have put goal line technology in. We have done that and does anyone argue over whether the ball was over the line anymore? No.
“Did we used to? Yes. Simple isn’t it? I’ve always been against this sort of stuff but sometimes it cost us last year. Big decisions. They do even themselves out but it hurts doesn’t it?”
