Tim Sherwood told Premier League Productions on Wednesday that Southampton’s ‘disgusting’ run of form has ‘cost’ Ralph Hasenhüttl a job at Tottenham.

The TV pundit shared that he would have previously been ‘advising’ Daniel Levy to appoint the Austrian at Tottenham because he has ‘merit’.

But since the turn of the year, the Saints have picked up the least amount of points in the Premier League, less than bottom-of-the-table, Sheffield United.

And Sherwood thinks that may have now cost Hasenhüttl the chance of walking the touchline in North London.

“All managers have bad runs but I think he’s a very, very good manager,” said Sherwood. “This group of players. Yes, they have taken their eyes off the Premier League with the cup run.

“And rightly so because a team like Southampton aren’t going to win the Premier League or finish in the Europa League places, so win a domestic trophy. But now they have to get back on their horse.

“That run, at the moment, is a disgusting run. And that has probably cost Ralph a job at Tottenham Hotspur.

“For me, if I was advising Daniel Levy, and I was still advising him right now then I think this guy has got merit. He is a very good manager. But when they look at the stats, and the fall from grace they have had, it’s almost impossible to employ him.”

Well, if Hasenhüttl wanted to impress Levy, he missed the chance big time yesterday as his side were beaten by Spurs.

Ryan Mason, 29, who is the youngest manager in Premier League history, masterminded his side to come from behind to win and secure all three points.

Whilst Tottenham now look towards those Champions League places, the Saints, who were top of the Premier League table in November, are now stuck in the bottom half of the table.
