Daniel Cormier was left speechless when he heard that what might be the most lopsided fight of 2025 had been confirmed.

On Monday, the professional heavyweight boxing match between Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua became official.

Before the announcement, there were days of speculation and skepticism across social media, with many doubting that Paul would actually agree to face a former two-time heavyweight world champion.

But now it is set, with the bout scheduled for December 19 in Miami, Florida.

Just before news of the fight broke, Jake Paul’s brother Logan and ‘DC’ happened to be recording podcasts in the same building and crossed paths.

Logan took the chance to ask the former two-weight UFC champion what he made of his brother’s fight against Joshua – a fight many thought had no chance of being made. 

Cormier’s first response was disbelief.

“It’s what?” he said, clearly caught off guard about the rumours becoming true.

Once it sank in, he quickly added: “There has gotta be some rules in place for Anthony Joshua.”

“This is where people are f—ing up, especially these MMA dudes. I keep saying, stop treating Jake like he’s not a boxer. It’s been five years now of pure boxing with great coaches and great training partners. He’s gotten a lot better. He can fight, man.”

“Yeah, but what about Anthony Joshua?” Logan questioned.

Cormier then replied: “That’s bad, bro,” sending everyone in the room into hysterics.

Joshua has not stepped into the ring since his stoppage loss to Daniel Dubois in September 2024.

Still, the Briton is backing himself to make a big statement when he takes on Paul next month.

After the fight was made official, Joshua said he plans to break the internet by stopping his 12-1 opponent.

“Jake or anyone can get this work. No mercy.

“I took some time out, and I’m coming back with a mega show. It’s a big opportunity for me. Whether you like it or not. I’m here to do massive numbers, have big fights, and break every record whilst keeping cool, calm and collected.”

Joshua added: “Mark my words, you’ll see a lot more fighters take these opportunities in the future.

“I’m about to break the internet over Jake Paul’s face.”
