Ian Wright has expressed his surprise at how ‘controlled’ Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero was during Argentina’s drama-filled World Cup final win over France on Sunday.
The former striker stated that he expected Romero to be ‘chaotic’ given the way he approaches games and how he has this no-nonsense style about him.
Whatever stage the £42m Spurs star (Sky Sports) is playing on, he will make sure that the opposition player is well aware of his presence.

He might have a tendency to grind a few gears to push opponents over the edge, but it’s all to get his team over that dotted line, and he does it very, very well.
Given the nature of the game Romero was playing over the weekend, Wright expected more aggression from the player, but instead, he felt that there was more of a level-headed approach, as he told his own podcast.
“You know who I thought was going to be chaotic and he wasn’t as bad as I thought he was going to be, especially in this game, was Romero,” said Wright.
“I thought Romero controlled himself because he has got that Argentinian ‘no-one bleeping passes, if you go past me, then I am fouling you’.”

WORLD CUP WINNER ROMERO
In 2018, it was Hugo Lloris donning the captain’s armband as France secured the World Cup against Croatia in Russia.
But this time, with Lloris on the other end, it was Romero winning the biggest trophy of his career and being part of a game he will never forget.
As soon as Kylian Mbappe got a sniff late in the second half, all hell broke loose as the nerve and steel of the Argentina players was tested like never before.
And whilst it went to a penalty shootout, they all come out of it with flying colours.
