Speculation across social media revealed that Arsenal had offered a new and improved contract to Pierre-Emerick Aubamayang.

The Gunners’ skipper will soon enter the final year of contract and Mikel Arteta’s side are in a vulnarable position.

Aubameyang is arguably Arsenal’s best player and the Gunners are in a situation where they could lose their star striker for cheap this summer.

The speculation online eased the fears of Arsenal fans but a new report claims that the rumours are not true.

ESPN have claimed that Arsenal are yet to offer Aubameyang a new contract and the Gunners are still at the risk of losing him this summer.

The report claims that the two parties are yet to discuss a renewal and Aubameyang has no offer on the table to agree or reject.

That is baffling considering how far down the Premier League table Arsenal would be without their star striker’s goals this season.

It is also claimed that Chelsea are closely monitoring Aubameyang’s contract situation. The Blues seem ready to pounce if a deal between Arsenal and the Gabon star cannot be agreed soon.

Arsenal have a history of selling their best players to their direct rivals. Ashley Cole, Samir Nasri, Robin van Persie and Alexis Sanchez all spring to mind but Aubameyang joining a rival might just prove to be the most painful of all.

There is still time for Arsenal to convince their skipper to commit his future at the club. However, the longer this drags on, Arsenal’s strength in transfer negotiations continues to take a hit.
