Fabrizio Romano has reported on Twitter that Cesar Azpilicueta is about to leave Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea and join Atletico Madrid.

The Italian journalist is reporting this morning that Chelsea have told Cesar Azpilicueta that he is going to be allowed to leave for free this summer.

Chelsea will terminate the contract of the £180,000-a-week (Spotrac) 33-year-old Spain international.

Romano has added that Azpilicueta will now move to La Liga club Atletico on a free transfer.

Azpilicueta signed a new two-year contract with Chelsea in August 2022.

Leaving Chelsea a legend

In our opinion, Cesar Azpilicueta will leave Chelsea a legend.

The 33-year-old joined Chelsea from Marseille back in 2012 and has been truly great for the Blues over the years.

Azpilicueta has played consistently well for Chelsea and has always been committed on the pitch.

Chelsea fans absolutely love and adore the Spanish defender and has huge respect for him.

During his time at Stamford Bridge, the 33-year-old has won the Premier League title twice, the FA Cup once, the UEFA Champions League on one occasion, and the UEFA Europa League twice.

Azpilicueta has made 349 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.

The defender has scored 10 goals, given 35 assists, and has kept 115 clean sheets.
