Didier Drogba has urged Serge Aurier on his Instagram story on Tuesday to ‘continue your work’ after he left Tottenham this summer and joined Villarreal.

After leaving Spurs on deadline day, Aurier found a new home and made the choice to move to Spain, as Villarreal confirmed on Monday.

And Premier League legend Drogba sent him a message on his IG story: “God is great @sergeaurier. Continue your work, it looks like work. All the very best.”

It’s going to be interesting to see how Aurier now fares in the colours of the Yellow Submarine because things didn’t work out for him in North London.

Given that his contract was ripped up, with one year left on his deal, it tells you everything you need to know about how things fared for him.

It also needs to be remembered that Spurs did pay PSG £23 million for his talents in 2017 (BBC Sport), so it wasn’t exactly a success on that front either.

But now, Aurier has the chance to get his career back on track and he has joined a club on the up in La Liga.

Under the guidance of his former PSG boss, Unai Emery, they won the Europa League last season.

Firstly, knocking out Arsenal in the semi-finals, before an enthralling and nail-biting penalty shootout win against Manchester United in the final.

There is a long list of players that have left Spurs and then gone on to lift silverware.

And it wouldn’t be a surprise if Aurier follows suit because, one of his former teammates, Juan Foyth has already proven that case.
