‘Conte’ll be seeing him off’: Sherwood says Spurs boss could dump ‘quality’ Poch signing

Tim Sherwood has suggested Antonio Conte will sell Tanguy Ndombele if he doesn’t put things right at Tottenham Hotspur.

Conte described the enigmatic Frenchman as ‘quality‘ in recent days but also challenged him to work harder for the team.

Mauricio Pochettino brought him to Tottenham for a club-record amount of £63 million in 2018.

But Pochettino, as well as Jose Mourinho and Nuno Espirito Santo, failed to draw consistent performances from the former Lyon midfielder.

And former Spurs star Sherwood believes that the no-nonsense Italian coach will jog him on in January unless he begins to pull his weight in the Premier League.

He told Optus Sport: “It’s the last-chance saloon for Ndombele. I’m sure there’s someone on the continent. They certainly won’t get their money back.

“It’s not worked out but sometimes you have to look in the mirror. He’s seen off three managers and I’m sure Conte will be seeing him off if he doesn’t start performing.”

Futile

There seems a sense of futility in trying to get the best out of the France international.

Pochettino and Mourinho are two very respected coaches, while Nuno was no mug either despite failing in North London.

You could certainly argue that Conte is a level above all three, having won a Serie A title as recently as May.

But Ndombele’s problems are a mentality one and the 52-year-old may not be able to alter that.

Even if he does pick things up over the coming weeks and garners praise from all corners of the football world, it probably will not last and Ndombele will be back to square one again.
