Antonio Conte has admitted that the lack of goals scored by Son Heung-min is not ‘good news’ for Tottenham Hotspur this season.
After finishing as the joint-Golden Boot winner in the Premier League last season, the South Korean captain’s form has plummeted and badly.
Cut to the 2022/2023 campaign and the 30-year-old has a mere 4 goals in the league.
As a result, Conte is right in admitting that the dearth of goals scored by Son is a concern.
Even goals aside, the Tottenham Hotspur legend’s all-round performances have been extremely disappointing this season.
The £192,000-a-week winger has found it virtually impossible to beat players, create chances for his teammates and find the same positions beyond the defence that made him such a threat.
However, it does not help Spurs and Conte that Son and goals seem like an oxymoron this campaign.
Aside from the in-form Harry Kane, no player at the club is ready to shoulder the goalscoring burden.
While the ex-Bayer Leverkusen man has shown in recent years that he can match and even outscore the Englishman, it does not seem to be the case in the ongoing season.
Antonio Conte says the lack of goals scored by Son is a worry

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has admitted that the dearth of goals scored by Son Heung-min this campaign is a concern.
“The players are human and he’s [Son Heung-min] is a person. For sure, if we talk about Sonny, last season, he scored 25 goals.”
“This season, he’s not scoring so much. For us, it’s not good news, this, because we count on his goals.”
“But then, we are not talking about robots; about a person, a human. I’m the first to hope that Sonny starts to score with the pressure or without the pressure of Richarlison behind. This is football.”
“We have to try to face, the players and the coaches, different situations, positive or negative. The most important thing I see during the training session and in the game that Sonny tries to do his best.”
“Sometimes, the best, it means that you go to score or make an assist, sometimes it means you’re not so lucky to score or make an assist”, he told Football.London’s Alasdair Gold.
Ultimately, Antonio Conte will hope Son Heung-min returns to doing what he does best, which is scoring goals for fun.
