Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte personally decided not to sell Emerson Royal in the January transfer window, according to The Athletic.
Antonio Conte made decision on Tottenham’s Emerson Royal
The report has claimed that Tottenham boss Conte and the club’s Managing Director of Football, Fabio Paratici, decided that Emerson would be the back-up to Pedro Porro.
Porro joined Spurs in the January transfer window.
The Spaniard will be the first-choice right wing-back at Tottenham now.
Brazil international Emerson will be the back-up.
Matt Doherty has joined Atletico Madrid from Tottenham.

Another chance
Emerson Royal has not had the best of times at Spurs so far in his career, but that Conte thinks that he is better than Doherty should be very encouraging to the £62,000-a-week (SalarySport) star.
It is time that Emerson steps up.
The former Barcelona star is only 24 now, so he has time on his hands.
Emerson could still improve and get better.
Now, Porro is a very good player, but he could take a while to get used to Conte’s system.
If Emerson gets a chance to start a game for Tottenham anytime soon, then he simply has to excel in it.
