Tottenham Hotspur have been rocked by the news Cristian Romero is absent until next year.
The Atalanta loanee has a hamstring injury.
And Spurs boss Antonio Conte revealed on Wednesday that he wouldn’t play again until 2022.
It’s a big blow because Romero is probably Tottenham’s best central defender.
But it could also open the door for Joe Rodon to play a more prominent role in Premier League games.
Conte’s side are home to Brentford tonight and the Wales international has only managed 78 minutes in this competition all season.
The Lilywhites spent £11 million on signing him from Swansea City 14 months ago but it hasn’t been an easy transition, with Conte being his third manager.
However, the Italian coach has some dodgy options in the form of Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier, while Japhet Tanganga is wholly inexperienced.
Why not unleash the 6’4 defender against the Bees tonight?
Yes, he played that game against Mura in the Europa Conference League last Thursday, but Rodon is a far better defender than he’s been made to look this season.
And using him against Brentford seems a genuine possibility.
All the big man needs is a bit of faith from the new manager and if Conte shows it, Rodon will reward him.
