Tottenham Hotspur’s season is in danger of collapsing in the coming weeks.
Three losses in their last five games has derailed any momentum they had built, and now they turn their attentions to European competition.
Spurs have been scraping through in Europe too as of late. They’re at the top of their group, but they very easily could’ve been bottom if Frankfurt hadn’t slipped up a fortnight ago.
However, despite poor showings, a win here would guarantee qualification to the knockout stages, but as Sporting showed in the reverse fixture, getting a result against this team isn’t easy.
With that in mind, we’ve had a go at predicting Spurs’ starting XI for this one.
We think that Antonio Conte will make four changes from the team that lost to Newcastle United here.
The north London club were utterly unconvincing against the Magpies, but due to their ongoing injury issues, there aren’t too many changes that can be made in the midfield or the attack.
However, we do think the backline will look different for this match.
Cristian Romero, Ben Davies and Ryan Sessegnon return, and while Emerson Royal has been poor lately, we think Conte will stick with him as he often has done.
Eric Dier continues in the heart of the defence, while Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg comes into the midfield for Rodrigo Bentancur who certainly needs a rest.
With Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison still out of action, the 5-3-2 formation is once again utilised with Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son leading the line as Tottenham’s two striking options.
