Antonio Conte has potentially just dropped a hint that’ll delight Tottenham Hotspur supporters – in a massive way, too.
The Italian is gearing up to oversee his first full season in charge of the Lilywhites.
Last term was a roaring success for Tottenham, with Conte guiding them back into the Champions League despite only taking the job in November.
With a full pre-season under their belt and having signed some excellent players – like Richarlison and Yves Bissouma – it could be another cracking season for the Lilywhites under Conte.
In January, there were suggestions that the former Chelsea manager was unhappy at Spurs and could quit in sensational circumstances, while it was also suggested toward the end of the campaign that he would walk away if he was unhappy with their summer business.
However, Conte himself has intimated that he might be ready to settle down at Tottenham and stay for the long term.
That’s because when speaking to the media today – via Football London – the 52-year-old said the team he’s building can be competitive for ‘many years’, perhaps indicating that he’s happy to stay at the club that long.
He said: “They have a lot of space for improvement. This is a young team and we can work for many years together to improve and fight with the best teams in England and in Europe.”
You could argue that Conte is the greatest manager Tottenham have ever hired.
Mauricio Pochettino wound up being great, and Jose Mourinho was a great manager, but in Conte they appointed somebody with a proven track record of success and, crucially, somebody in the prime of their career, having only won a Serie A with Inter.
It would’ve been a travesty had Daniel Levy annoyed him to the point where he felt compelled to leave, but it looks like he might be willing to stick around for quite a while and that’s an immense boost for the club and its supporters.
