It took Tottenham Hotspur to the final day of the transfer window to get their business underway.
Well, arrivals at least.
Spurs signed Dejan Kulusevski on loan from Juventus and Rodrigo Bentancur on a permanent basis from the Italian outfit, paying an initial £15.8 million for the latter.
However, the duo have proven to be brilliant additions by Tottenham manager Antonio Conte and managing director Fabio Paratici.
Bentancur, in particular, is looking like an absolute bargain.
Steal
For less than £16 million, the Uruguay international is looking like a steal after enjoying a relatively seamless transition to Premier League football, which isn’t always the easiest if you’re a foreign import.
Bentancur has been exceptional in the Lilywhites’ midfield but, rather excitingly, the Italian manager is backing his player to get even better.
He told Football London: “He is only 24-years-old, he’s very young and he has space for improvement. I asked him to continue to work hard and to improve because he can go also to improve himself and to increase his level.”
Bentancur could be a massive player for Tottenham over the final eight Premier League games of the season.
Spurs have lacked stability in midfield for much of the campaign, with Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso being loaned out, while Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Harry Winks have been inconsistent.
The former Juventus star, however, has been a breath of fresh air to a midfield which needed exactly like that.
And if Conte feels that there’s more to come then, well, the supporters will be ecstatic.
