Juventus have left Tottenham Hotspur free to bring Clement Lenglet to the Premier League after deciding that the Barcelona defender was not a ‘priority’, as reported by Marca.
After months sifting desperately through the dirt without even the briefest glint of gold, Fabio Paratici has finally hit the jackpot. And not a moment too soon.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham will finally end their pursuit of a new left-sided centre-half. France international Lenglet will arrive on a season-long loan after falling out of favour at La Liga giants Barcelona.
Marca go one step further than Romano. They say a deal between Barca and Spurs has now been agreed. What’s more, Lenglet could be unveiled as the latest addition to Antonio Conte’s increasingly stacked squad early next week. Perhaps as soon as Monday.
The former Sevilla ace also has permission to miss pre-season training as he clears out his locker. Lenglet’s eye-watering £170,000-a-week wages did appear to put a pause to negotiations at one point, per The Times, but Tottenham have now agreed to meet his demands. Albeit with some ‘adjustment’.
Barcelona’s Clement Lenglet is heading to Tottenham Hotspur

Interestingly, while Spurs are onto a good thing under Conte, they do not appear to have been Lenglet’s first choice. Marca adds that the 27-year-old, who once cost Barcelona a cool £32 million, ‘hesitated’ because he was waiting for better offers from elsewhere.
Juventus sounded Lenglet out as a potential successor for the wantaway Matthijs de Ligt. That was before the Serie A powerhouses decided against firming up their interest. The Cult of Conte does give Tottenham a far greater pulling power in the market, however, as evidenced by the arrivals of Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma and new £60 million record signing Richarlison.
The former Inter Milan boss spoke to Lenglet, convincing him that North London was the place to be. And Lenglet knows full well that an excellent season alongside Christian Romero and Eric Dier can only do his World Cup hopes the world of good.
