Fabrizio Romano has said that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are now actively to sign Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia.
The Italian journalist has told CaughtOffSide that Liverpool want to sign Romeo Lavia from Southampton in the summer transfer window.
Romano has claimed that Liverpool are working on a potential deal for Lavia and are in contact with the defensive midfielder’s agents.
Southampton want £50 million for the 19-year-old Belgium international defensive midfielder.
Liverpool’s Premier League rivals Chelsea are also keen on the former Manchester City prospect.
Romano said: “Staying with Liverpool, they keep working on Romeo Lavia. Nothing is advanced in terms of bids or club to club negotiations – still, contacts are taking place with the player’s agents and they are trying to understand the final price tag.
Southampton always wanted around £50m but Liverpool are hoping for a different fee. He’s not their only target, but he is a concrete one, and Liverpool are still there.
“Jurgen Klopp has hinted that things will happen before the end of the summer, and while it’s impossible to predict the exact number of signings, Liverpool will be busy for sure, it just depends on opportunities.
“Chelsea are also following the Lavia situation due to the connection with Joe Shields, one of the Chelsea directors, but it’s not linked to the Moises Caicedo deal.
“Caicedo remains the priority for Chelsea, but Shields had Lavia at Southampton and Manchester City, so he knows the player well and there is a good connection there.”
Liverpool should step up Romeo Lavia pursuit
In our opinion, Liverpool need to step up their pursuit of Romeo Lavia.
With Chelsea also keen, the Merseyside club should not delay and make a bid now.
What is there to lose anyway?
The worst that could happen is Southampton would reject Liverpool’s bid for Lavia, who has been described as “incredible” by Manchester City City manager Pep Guardiola.
We do not think that Liverpool should pay £50 million for Lravia.
After all, he is only 19.
Perhaps the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners should offer £30 million or £35 million and see what happens.
Lavia has made 29 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.
The teenager has scored one goal in those games.
Southampton will play in the Championship next season after getting relegated from the Premier League.
Lavia himself could be willing to leave the Saints for a club in the Premier League, especially Liverpool.
