Zak Rudden scored his second League Two goal for Plymouth Argyle against Leyton Orient – Scottish Premiership challengers Rangers must be watching.
It’s fair to say Zak ‘Armando’ Rudden had a rather interesting night on Tuesday.
The Rangers loanee hasn’t had it all his own way since joining Plymouth Argyle on loan over the summer but luck was certainly on his side when Leyton Orient made the tiring trip to Home Park in midweek.
The Scottish striker somehow got away with the most blatant handball since a certain Argentinian scamp in 1986 in the build up to Plymouth’s opener and, just minutes later, he got on the scoresheet himself, flicking home a whipped cross with a finish so deft and cute that you had to check the replay to make sure that he actually got a touch.
This was the sort of all-action performance Plymouth fans were hoping for when they signed Rudden on a temporary basis and, after scoring a second goal in just 12 games for the Green Army, manager Ryan Lowe will be hoping this is a turning point for a striker whose finishing, until now at least, had been a little ragged.
“I am buzzing for him,” Lowe, himself a predatory goalscoring in his playing days, told the Herald.
“He’s a goalscorer, he’s a sniffer, he’s a poacher, he gets across people, he gets across defenders and I think all good strikers do that anyway because it is a chance for a goal and when there is a chance for a goal you have got to get yourself in them positions.”
Lowe was not the only man at Home Park thrilled to see Rudden cut loose and finally show what he’s capable of – even if he’s better off keeping the ‘Hand of Rudd’ moments to a minimum. He’s unlikely to get away with it twice.
